The Saeima¹ has adopted and
the President has proclaimed the following Law:

On Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions

Section 1. Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Officials in International Business Transactions (hereinafter - the Convention) of 21 November 1997 is accepted and approved by this Law.

Section 2. In accordance with Article 4, Paragraph 3 of the Convention the General Prosecutor's Office shall be the competent authority for advice on jurisdictional issues in pre-trial proceedings, and the Ministry of Justice - during the trial or after judgment enters into effect.

Section 3. In accordance with Article 9 of the Convention the General Prosecutor's Office shall be the competent authority for sending and receipt of mutual assistance requests during pre-trial proceedings, but the Ministry of Justice - after a case is brought to the court.

Section 4. In accordance with Article 10 of the Convention the General Prosecutor's Office shall be the competent authority for sending and receipt of requests for extradition of a person.

Section 5. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs shall notify the Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development on the competent authorities referred to in Sections 2, 3 and 4 of this Law.

Section 6. The Convention shall come into force within the time period and in accordance with procedures stipulated in Article 13, Paragraph 2 thereof, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shall notify thereof in the official gazette Latvijas Vēstnesis [the official Gazette of the Government of the Republic of Latvia].

Section 7. This Law shall come into force on the day following the proclamation thereof. By this Law the Convention in English and the translation thereof into Latvian shall be proclaimed.

The Saeima adopted this Law on 6 March 2014.
