AGREEMENT ON THE AMENDMENTS TO THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF LATVIA AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION OF 20 DECEMBER 2010 ON THE SIMPLIFICATION OF MUTUAL TRAVELS OF INHABITANTS IN THE TERRITORIES OF THE BORDER AREA OF THE REPUBLIC OF LATVIA AND THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION

The Government of the Republic of Latvia and the Government of the Russian Federation, hereinafter referred to as the Parties,

desiring to promote mutual social and economic contacts,

considering the interest in further simplification of mutual travels of inhabitants in the territories of border areas,

in accordance with Article 12, Paragraph two of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Latvia and the Government of the Russian Federation of 20 December 2010 on simplification of mutual travels of inhabitants in the territories of the border area of the Republic of Latvia and the Russian Federation (hereinafter - the Agreement),

have agreed as follows.

Article 1

The term "close relatives" shall be replaced with the term "relatives" in Article 1 of the Agreement.

Article 2

The words "that are regularly organised by State administrative institutions and authorities of the Parties" shall be deleted from Article 4, Paragraph four, Clause e) of the Agreement.

Article 3

Clause d) shall be deleted from Article 5, Paragraph one of the Agreement.

Article 4

Article 5, Paragraph five of the Agreement shall be expressed in the following wording:

"5. During the term of validity of a local border traffic permit inhabitants of the territories of the border areas who have local border traffic permits may stay in the territory of the State border area of the other Party for an unrestricted period of time. Within the period of validity of the local border traffic permit, the duration of each continuous stay in the territory of the State border area of the other Party may not exceed 90 (ninety) days."

Article 5

Article 6, Paragraph two of the Agreement shall be expressed in the following wording:

"2. When crossing the State border between Latvia and Russia within the framework of local border traffic, the stamp with notation on crossing the border shall not be affixed to the local traffic permits and valid travel documents of the inhabitants of the territories of border area."

Article 6

This Agreement shall enter into effect within 30 (thirty) days after the date when the last written notification on the fact that the Parties have fulfilled the internal procedures required for the entry into effect of this Protocol has been received through diplomatic channels.

Signed in Riga on 14 November 2017 in two copies in the Latvian and the Russian languages, both texts having equal legal power.
